Twelve companies accused in the MMPRC scandal have been released after investigations proved that they were conducting legal monetary transactions.
The President of the Asset Recovery Commission, Ahmed As’adh, informed a local media outlet that the investigation into the accused companies proved that the dollar transactions with SOF were legitimate.
According to As’adh, the Commission is releasing and clearing the claims against the 12 companies that have been proven to have done legal dollar transactions.
As’adh stated that the investigations that have been completed thus far are of the accused companies that showed evidence of legal monetary transactions with SOF. Furthermore, despite the fact that these companies have been cleared, he noted that SOF is still being probed.
SOF is one of the most prominent companies implicated in the MMPRC scandal for engaging in unlawful currency transactions. Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb was convicted of involvement in the massive MVR 3.3 billion MMPRC scandal.
In May, the joint committee of Parliament revealed a list of individuals and businesses being probed in relation with the MMPRC corruption.
