The Fisheries Ministry has confirmed that 120 birds that were imported to Maldives by ‘Pet Master’ company have been put down under the advice of the Attorney General.
Pet Master’s Manager Hussain Athif told local news agency Sun that around 120 birds were put down which cost MVR 800,000. Moreover, there were no permits for the import of birds at the time it was imported, however, the law was later amended to grant a permit to import the birds.
Athif claimed that the birds were put down brutally by injection. He filed a case at the Civil Court regarding the matter. A complaint over the case has been submitted to the Parliament by the company as well.
