Around 15 students who were residing in Ukraine have now been relocated to Hungary.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid tweeted on Friday that 15 students who were residing in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine were relocated to the Hungarian Consulate in Uzhhorod (Ungvar), Ukraine.
Moreover, they have now crossed the border to Hungary and are en route to Budapest. The return of these 15 students to the Maldives can be facilitated within 2 days of their arrival in Budapest, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The Foreign Ministry stated that they were working on evacuating Maldivians at Kharkiv to Ukraine’s western area. However, there are some difficulties due to the distance in-between.
Maldivian Embassy in Berlin, Germany, had informed them yesterday that out of the eight remaining locals at Kharkiv, five of them are students who have been unable to depart due to visa renewal issues whilst three of them have families in Ukraine.
Russia initiated attacks against Ukraine on Thursday and many obstructions have been faced in repatriating the remaining students in Ukraine.
