Abdulla Saeed, the managing director of Maldives State Shipping (MSS), is expected to be appointed as the new managing director of State Trading Organization (STO).
This comes after the former managing director, Hussain Amr Mohamed Rashad, was dismissed for refusing to support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s re-election and instead aligning himself with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed, who lost the party’s presidential primary.
On Tuesday, a formal request was sent to the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) seeking Saeed’s appointment to the top post at STO. Saeed has previously served as cabinet secretary during the first MDP administration and currently manages MSS, a subsidiary of STO.
STO’s chief financial officer, Mohamed Nizam, has been serving as acting managing director since Amr’s dismissal.
