In a press conference today, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said it had traced the money trail and completed all the necessary legal procedures in its investigation of the ventilator scandal.
This comes after Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem had declined to press charges against the responsible individuals for a second time claiming there is insufficient evidence related to the money trail, after two investigations by the ACC.
ACC Vice President Fathimath Anoola said they asked the PG to press charges related to collecting undue advantage with abuse of power in this investigation. However, she said PG was focused on finding the money trail and whether a state employee had received payment, which was not part of the investigation.
The commission claimed it had located where the money had ended up and then went on to criticize PG for lack of determination to press charges. Furthermore, ACC said it will be requesting to revise the PG’s decision.
ACC President Mariyam Shiuna also criticized Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed for influencing its independence by calling for a motion of no confidence.
