Following the decision of a parliamentary committee to dismiss all members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), all remaining members have tendered their resignations.
Ali Ashraf and Ibrahim Shakeel, two members of the commission, had earlier resigned when the People’s Majlis Committee on Independent Institutions decided to undertake a performance audit of the ACC, citing underperformance.
The commission’s three remaining members, ACC President Mariyam Shiuna, Vice President Fathmath Anoola, and member Aishath Abdulla, resigned today, according to the ACC.
Their resignation came after the Independent Institutions Committee voted to sack all ACC members yesterday and refer the matter to the parliament floor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ACC stated it conducted all investigations in accordance with the law, adding that it refused to be coerced by political pressure.
