The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has decided to offer technical support to the Maldives in the amount of MVR 31.7 million, or USD 2.05 million.
USD 2 million of the USD 2.05 million awarded is a grant from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, according to the finance ministry.
Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer signed the technical aid agreement on behalf of the Maldives government, while Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Keiko Yanai signed on behalf of the Japanese government.
The funds will be used to strengthen the management of communicable disease outbreaks and pandemic response, the finance ministry said.
Under the ADB Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), ADB agreed in 2020 to continue its support and funding to the Maldives for another five years, until 2024.
