A group of AFCONS employees working on the Addu City road project in the Maldives has filed a complaint against the company, alleging inhumane working conditions. The employees staged protests in front of the police station before submitting the complaint on Tuesday.
A video circulating on social media shows some of the employees describing the poor working conditions and the overall mistreatment of workers. In the video, one worker reports having been denied meals while working and being unable to take a break even after suffering an eye injury.
The employees stated that they turned to the authorities because they believe that only the police can address the issues they are facing with their employer. The police have confirmed receiving the complaint and are currently investigating the matter.
