Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed the release of all nine suspects arrested in Addu under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (No. 32/2015).
All nine suspects were initially arrested on 27th March. However, three were released without a remand. Police stated that the remaining six persons were released as keeping them in custody was no longer justified, after keeping them in remand for 7 days. Moreover, Police never disclosed any further details regarding the suspects.
They were arrested in Addu coinciding with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Addu, along with other high level members of India and Maldives.
