Maldives Police Service has revealed more information regarding the alleged high profile IS operative arrested in the Maldives as being a ‘Master of Propaganda’.
Maldivian Police Service in a joint operation conducted with United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and investigative authorities from two European Union (EU) nations, arrested a 30-year-old Maldivian man who is an suspected to be a high profile operative associated with the infamous terrorist organization, Islamic State (IS) on January 6, 2022, in Male’ City.
Maldives Police Service stated that the individual has been involved in supporting IS, and propagating its terrorism agenda via different social media platforms using accounts made under different names since 2015.
He created several accounts under the ‘Skirmish’ and ‘Skirmishkid’ in Telegram and other encrypted messaging platforms and rally support for IS in social media groups in different countries.
Moreover, he encourged conspiring acts of terrorism and threatened to carry out acts of terrorism via social media groups. He called on fatal attacks against leaders of some European countries and encouraged such acts. He also called for terrorist attacks against European countries and its civilians.
Maldives Police Service also revealed that they found and seized several pieces of evidence from the individual’s residence during their raid in January.
