Auditor General Hassan Ziyath has resigned amid uproar over his involvement in the MMPRC scandal.
The Parliamentary Joint Committee investigating the MMPRC scandal published a list of names implicated in the scandal today, which included Auditor General Ziyath and many other key figures in various government positions.
Ziyath claimed in his resignation letter to the Speaker of Parliament that he is resigning to protect the integrity and respect of the Auditor General’s office.
In addition, he also denied any wrongdoings during his tenure as the Auditor General.
Hassan Ziyath previously claimed that the MMPRC corruption funds in question totaled MVR 200,000 and were allocated to all PPM candidates in the 2014 Parliamentary Election. He also said that no one knew the money was from the MMPRC corruption at the time.
