Adam Azim has announced his resignation from the position as the Advisor to Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader Qasim Ibrahim. The Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Azim, made his decision public through a letter on social media, stating his support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s re-election bid for a second term. According to Azim, the President’s re-election is the best course of action for the Maldives and its citizens, citing his ability to maintain stability across the nation.
Azim also stated that it would not be appropriate to serve as an advisor to another candidate, having already pledged his support for President Solih. As a result, he and several other senior members of JP have left the party to support the President’s re-election bid. Vice President Faisal Naseem has also expressed his support for President Solih’s bid for a second term.
Meanwhile, JP, which is part of the ruling coalition, has decided to field its own candidate, Qasim, in the presidential election. The Adhalaath Party (AP) has decided to rejoin the coalition for a second term, while the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) is yet to announce a decision. The Maldives Development Alliance has joined the ruling coalition led by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
