Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Maldives on an official visit this afternoon.
The Bangladeshi prime minister, accompanied with a high-level delegation from Bangladesh, arrived in the Maldives aboard a VIP flight operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines. In Velana International Airport, she was greeted by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Haleel.
Her six-day visit to the Maldives was at the request of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The invitation was offered to her during President Solih’s official visit to Bangladesh in March.
PM Hasina is set to address the Maldivian parliament, the People’s Majlis, at a special session on Thursday. According to the People’s Majlis, cabinet ministers, prominent government officials, and schoolchildren will attend the session.
According to the Bangladeshi foreign ministry, as a gesture of friendship, Bangladesh intends to gift 13 military vehicles to the Maldives during her official visit.
Prime Minister Hasina is also set to meet with President Solih. According to the President’s Office, four agreements will be inked between the two countries during this visit.
The four proposed instruments are Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income, Agreement on the Transfer of Prisoners; renewal of the MoU in areas of Health Care and Medical Sciences, and the MoU on Cooperation in the Area of Youth and Sports Development. In addition, the MoU on Recruitment of Qualified Health Professionals will also be renewed between the two countries.
