Bank of Maldives (BML) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enact a city bike rental scheme in Hulhumale.
The bike rental project will be funded by BML and will be carried out in partnership with HDC.
According to BML, the project would introduce 300 rental bikes to Hulhumale for public use at a fair price. In addition, many docking stations for the bikes will be provided in strategic locations, and the rental system will be equipped with digital payment capabilities.
Timothy Sawyer, CEO and Managing Director of Bank of Maldives, stated that the bank is looking forward to delivering this project, which would be the first of its type offered to Hulhumale inhabitants and visitors. Furthermore, he emphasized that bicycles are a clean and environmentally friendly method of transportation, as well as an important part of living a healthy lifestyle.
“It’s also fitting that we are announcing this on World Bicycle Day this year,” he added.
