With assistance from the Bank of Maldives (BML) Community Fund, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) headquartered in Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alif Atoll, has opened a community park on the island.
Middle Sports Club, an island-based NGO that won the competition, opened the park on October 30. According to BML, the project’s goal is to establish a location for the community to meet in their spare time and develop communal relationships.
The community park, which is located near the beach, has barbecue grills, seating places, and an outdoor library for the community’s readers.
Nashwan Ibrahim of Middle Sports Club commented on the initiative, pointing out that Dhidhdhoo has the most people in the atoll but few venues for inhabitants to meet for recreational activities.
He said that the organisation chose to apply for the BML Community Fund to establish this park for the benefit of the community, with the aim that it would become a place to make lasting memories.
The BML Community Fund is an initiative that encourages individuals to give back to their communities through long-term initiatives. Every quarter, five successful projects are chosen to earn USD 3,200 to help them make a difference in their communities. Under this initiative, USD 65,000 is provided each year to collaborate with dedicated individuals and non-governmental organisations.
