China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has today arrived in the Maldives for an official visit.
Wang Yi was greeted at the Velana International Airport (VIA) by Foreign Minister and UNGA President Abdulla Shahid who arrived earlier today in the Maldives.
Wang Yi was invited by the UNGA President Abdulla Shahid during his visit as UNGA President to China last November. Wang Yi is set to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih tomorrow.
As part of the visit, Maldives and China will sign several MoUs to improve economic cooperation and hold formal discussions to improve the bilateral relations between the two nations.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is the highest-ranked official from China to visit the Maldives since President Solih’s administration came into power. China and Maldives first established foreign relations on October 14th, 1972. This year marks the golden jubilee’s 50th anniversary since then and Wang Yi will inaugurate the celebrations.
