Male City Council has proposed implementing and testing an environmentally friendly electric bike infrastructure in Villimale.
Mayor Dr Mohamed Muizzu delivered information about the council’s planned initiatives for Villimale at a meeting held by Male City Council on Sunday to elicit feedback from Villimale citizens.
According to Mayor Muizzu, the council intends to introduce a similar system in Male as well. He highlighted that eBike services have been adopted in several cities in developed nations.
While noting that eBike services have been implemented in various cities in developed countries, Mayor Muizzu remarked that the council aims to implement a similar service in Male as well.
He stated that it would be preferable to test such a service in Villimale before introducing it in its entirety throughout Greater Male, and as such, the council intends to test the service in Villimale if the residents approve.
During the meeting to solicit comments from Villimale locals, Muizzu stated that the council’s planned projects could only be implemented if the residents approved.
During the discussion, no one from the public spoke out against the plan, with many welcoming it and emphasizing that such a project would be beneficial to Villimale.
Several cities around the world have established such a system for booking bikes in public locations using an app, and the number of cities implementing this system is growing.
