Male’ City Council is planning to initiate a tree planting scheme to plant 100,000 trees in the capital city’s roads and parks.
According to the City Council, trees will be planted on Male’ and Villimale roads as part of the tree planting program this Saturday.
The first 150 trees to be planted under the scheme will begin on Saturday in Male’s major roadways, such as Majeedhee Magu, with mango trees accounting for 65 percent of the plants, the council said.
A total of 100,000 trees would be planted in roadways and parks throughout the year under the tree planting initiative featured in the council’s strategic action plan.
The trees brought for the initiative, both from the islands and from overseas, were purchased with funds allotted by the council. On Sunday, the council established a nursery for the trees delivered for the tree planting initiative.
