The Civil Court of Maldives has accepted a civil defamation suit filed by former President and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed seeking MVR 10 million in damages caused by a tweet by MDP MP Ibrahim Shareef.
MP Shareef tweeted on November 25 that Nasheed conspired to kill fifty people to overthrow President Maumoon’s government and blame their deaths on President Maumoon. However, MDP parliamentary group passed a resolution to stop the atrocity according to Shareef.
MP Shareef accused that Nasheed tried to kill 50 people by bringing in mercenaries posing as journalists and killing 50 people during a massive MDP demonstration.
Speaker Nasheed seeks MVR 10 million in damages caused by defamation over the accusations made by MP Shareef.
