The Maldives Civil Court has stated that it concluded over 4,600 cases in 2021.
The Civil Court announced in its annual report that it heard 7,370 cases last year, including 2,756 cases carried forward from the previous year and 4,614 new cases filed throughout the year.
Furthermore, the court disclosed that 4,643 cases were concluded during the year, with 2,729 cases still outstanding at the end of the year.
The Civil Court also disclosed that in 2021, its Dispute Resolution Division received 3,299 cases, with 66.9 percent of them concluded. Meanwhile, the court’s Hulhumale’ Division finished 274 cases last year, leaving 75 unresolved.
Apart from cases that come under the jurisdiction of the Family Court of the Maldives, the Civil Court of the Maldives is the higher court that presides over all civil proceedings. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s problems and limitations, the court was able to record a high completion rate of cases brought to the court.
