Civil Court today ordered Airport Investments Maldives (AIM) to pay USD 3.3 million to World Link Travel (WLT).
WLT is a company with shares of Villa Company owned by MP Ibrahim Gasim.
AIM is a joint-venture between government companies consisting of Maldivian, MTCC, and MACL.
The sentence was carried out in regard to the case of AIM failure to hand over several islands to WLT after collecting USD 16.9 million in advance during 2007.
WLT sued AIM for USD 112 million in reparation for the financial damages it incurred because of AIM failure to hand over the islands to WLT.
In 2019, Supreme Court stated that AIM need to pay back the full advance amount of USD 16.9 million and an additional USD 13 million as financial cost to WLT.
Civil Court further stated that AIM has paid USD 15 million to Villa Shipping and six others involved in WLT, USD 11.4 million in taxes, and an additional USD 8.2 million to WLT.
However, AIM still has not paid USD 1.9 million in liabilities and USD 1.4 million as financial cost to WLT and Civil Court ordered AIM to pay this amount within a month.
