The General Purpose Committee of the People’s Majlis has passed a resolution requesting that the Budget Committee boost the Majlis budget for 2022 by MVR 7 million.
The finance ministry’s projected budget for 2022 allotted MVR 191 million to the People’s Majlis.
Committee Vice Chairperson Hassan Shiyan, Majlis member for Thoddoo Constituency, noted in a committee meeting on Wednesday that the finance ministry had accepted the requested budget for the Majlis, but an MVR 7 million under new policy initiatives was not included.
In response, Abdul Ghanee Abdul Hakeem, Majlis member from Kurendhoo, emphasized that the new policy initiatives are highly essential.
According to the Majlis member from Kurendhoo, the Majlis building has been experiencing elevator problems, and the committee rooms lack the essential administrative equipment. Furthermore, he claimed that Majlis members have been having difficulty keeping track of what is going on in the Majlis floor while attending committee meetings.
While emphasizing that the funds granted under the new policy initiatives are intended to solve the issues, he pushed for an MVR 7 million increase in the Majlis budget. Following that, all committee members present voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
