Male’ City Councilor Nahula Ali is being sued by a private corporation for an alleged unpaid debt of MVR 1.6 million.
The company that launched the lawsuit, Zed MC Traders Pvt. Ltd, claimed that Nahula borrowed over MVR 1.6 million from the company on several occasions since March to support a café, as well as her campaign in the Local Council Elections and other expenses.
According to the firm’s legal counsel, the company presented Nahula with a seven-day notice and attempted to resolve the issue out of court, but the councilor refused to cooperate.
The councilor, according to the company, breached the agreement made to share the cafe’s partnership equally. It also alleges that she borrowed money in addition to funds to support the café.
Councilor Nahula has yet to respond to the accusations.
In July, Nahula was also accused of coordinating threats against other councilors, which she denied.
