The court has ordered the release of five suspects detained by the Maldives Police Service in a special anti-terrorism operation at Addu City, earlier this May.
Police arrested a total of eight suspects from Addu City with alleged ties to religious extremism. The court previously ordered them to be remanded in custody of the police for 15 days. However, five of them are set to be released.
The police refused to disclose any further information about the case but assured investigation will continue despite the release.
Police have made multiple arrests in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ with links to religious extremism in the wake of the terror attack targeting Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on May 6th.
