North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam, the Chairperson of the Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee), stated that Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed travelled abroad to conduct an inquiry into the May 6 terror attack.
MP Aslam revealed today at a press conference that CP Hameed’s recent overseas trip was part of the terror attack investigation. He said that the committee has asked for a meeting with the police to get more information on the May bombing.
Several important officials have been summoned to the 241 Committee for investigation, including CP Hameed, who was the first person brought to the committee in connection with the investigations into the May 6 terror attack.
Home Minister Imran Abdullah and Defense Minister Mariya Didi were also called before the 241 Committee to answer questions in connection with the May bombing.
Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor, Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal, and Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef were also summoned to the 241 Committee in connection with the same inquiry.
The Maldives Police Service is presently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack on Speaker Nasheed. So far, four people have been arrested, all of whom appear to be radicalized. The parliamentary committee is looking into Speaker Nasheed’s security breach, which led to the May bomb blast.
