A Bangladeshi migrant detained in connection with the death of a local businessman in Dhangethi has been sent to neighbouring Mahibadhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
On Saturday, Saalim was detained under a court order in connection with the murder of Mahmood Aboobakr, 57, who was discovered tied up and placed in an abandoned well in Dhangethi last Thursday.
A police media officer confirmed that he was remanded in custody by the Dhangethi Magistrate Court for 15 days on Saturday night.
The police returned him to the house where he was working as a caretaker for an elderly Dhangethi resident on Sunday. The police blocked off a broad area surrounding the home as Saalim reportedly re-enacted his acts during the night the victim went missing.
Following that, authorities brought him back to the police station before transferring him to the capital island of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Mahibadhoo, on Sunday night.
But authorities have yet to offer any further information on the murder investigation after reporting the arrest of a male migrant worker on Saturday.
According to reports, police searched the house Saalim was living in, which is around 100 metres from where Mahmood’s body was discovered, and arrested the migrant worker on Saturday after receiving multiple reports from neighbours of a strange noise emanating from the house the night the victim went missing.
