Economic Minister and current Science and Technology Minister, Fayyaz Ismail has said that discussions are ongoing with key investors in the telecommunications industry to reduce the internet prices, and no final proposal has been formulated yet.
Minister Fayyaz said this concerning the information currently circulating in the media that the government has decided to reduce the internet prices starting this July. However, Minister Fayyaz was quick to play down the rumors.
Minister Fayyaz tweeted that “the news circulating on media on internet price changes is not 100% accurate.” He also added “we have been having dialogue with tech industry users over the last two months” and “meaningful changes will happen.”
Reducing internet prices is one of the key pledges the government made during the presidential campaign. Despite the criticism from the public and three years into the administration, no substantial changes have happened regarding the pricing of internet services.
