Dr. Farahanaz Faisal has been appointed as the Maldivian permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Dr. Farhanaz, who is already serving as the ambassador from the Maldives to United Kingdom, was appointed with a total of 54 votes in today’s Parliament session.
Her name was nominated to Parliament on February 17th by President Solih.
Dr. Farahanaz studied politics at the University of Hull in the UK and became the first Maldivian female to obtain a Ph.D. She is an experienced diplomat who previously served as the non-resident Ambassador to France and Spain.
The International Maritime Organization was founded in 1948 as a specialized agency of United Nations for the regulation of shipping. Their headquarter is in London, United Kingdom.
