A 23-year-old Brazilian woman was caught at the Maldives’ Velana International Airport with 2.6 kg of cocaine in her luggage, worth over MVR 6.5 million in street value.
According to a statement from the customs department, the woman was arrested after a search of her luggage and was subsequently deported without being allowed to enter the country. This action was taken in accordance with regulations and in consultation with enforcement agencies, as the woman was suspected of attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives.
This recent seizure follows a similar incident that occurred at the same airport last month, where two boxes containing a large quantity of drugs were reported missing. The police had launched an investigation into the matter.
