Drugs totaling 17 kilos were seized by the Maldives Customs Service from a Brazilian who arrived in the Maldives on Sunday.
Maldives Customs stated that the suspect, a 29-year-old Brazilian woman, arrived in the Maldives on August 18 on a flight from Brazil.
Customs officers regarded her activities odd, necessitating a search of her bags. During the search, the officers discovered things that they suspected were drugs, which were later proved to be cocaine after testing.
The woman was carrying 16.723 kilos of cocaine, with a total street value of MVR 83 million, according to Customs.
Police have taken custody of both the suspect and the drugs to conduct a criminal investigation. A 31-year-old Brazilian lady, who came in the Maldives on August 13, was previously detained with drugs valued more than MVR 15 million.
