Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has said that the attempted assassination of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed is linked to radicalization and that he believes there is ample evidence to charge the two terror suspects.
PG Hussain Shameem claimed that existing evidence points to radicalization. But when asked whether it was religious extremism, he did not elaborate.
At a press conference following the terror attack, Prosecutor General Shameem said that they have reason to conclude that the two people detained in connection with the attack are radicals. He also stated that based on the current evidence, charges could be filed against the two arrested individuals.
The names of the two people detained in connection with the terror attack were recently released by the Maldives Police Service. They are Mujaaz Ahmed, Ma. Feyruge, Malé and Thahumeen Ahmed, Folheyma, GA. Kondey.
