Kulhudhuffushi Airport was the site of an explosion on Thursday, which left four individuals injured. The incident occurred while airport personnel were in the process of refilling a cylinder typically used for fire safety exercises.
According to the local police, the explosion transpired during routine maintenance when the workers were testing the pressure of the equipment.
The injured parties, consisting of three men and one woman, were swiftly transported to Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital at approximately 11:13 am on Thursday. Of these, one man suffered severe injuries, while the other three sustained minor injuries. Hospital spokesperson Mohamed Moosa declined to provide specific details regarding the injuries sustained by the severely injured patient.
Mohamed Rizvi, the Managing Director of Regional Airports, the entity overseeing Kulhudhuffushi Airport, explained that the workers were conducting a pressure test on the equipment when the explosion occurred. He emphasized that the incident did not disrupt the airport’s regular operations.
