Maldives Customs revealed that revenue from exporting and importing goods grew in June 2021 due to an increase in trade.
According to Customs data, the country’s earnings from export and import duties was MVR 247 million in June, up 59% from the previous year.
Customs data showed goods imported totaled MVR 3 billion in June 2021, a 44% increase from 2020. Customs revealed that, excluding fuel, MVR 2.5 billion in products were imported last month, a 22% rise from the previous year.
According to the data, MVR 586 million was spent on importing machineries and mechanical appliances out of a total MVR 3 billion spent on imports, making them the most imported products in June 2021.
Furthermore, MVR 228 million in goods were exported from the Maldives in June, an MVR 7 million increase over the previous year.
According to Customs, Thailand ranks first among the Maldives’ top five exporting countries, accounting for more than 30% of total exports and delivering an income of up to MVR 46 million in June 2021.
