Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson election. Preliminary results show he won the seat by a difference of over 7,000 votes against Parliamentarian Imthiyaz Fahmy.
In a tweet, Minister Fayyaz said the party members who voted in the MDP chairperson election have voted for the ruling party to win in the 2023 presidential election, as he will remain steadfast towards achieving that goal. He also thanked all party members that had come out to vote.
Minister Fayyaz has stated that his top priority as the MDP chairperson would be to prepare the ruling party for the presidential election in 2023. As such, the minister said that members need to stop the disagreements that have emerged within the party and regain trust and start working together for the presidential election.
