Former journalist Mohamed Fazeen has officially been appointed to the Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).
Fazeen was presented with his official letter of appointment as a member of BroadCom by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in a special ceremony held at the President’s Office today.
The Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee provided its approval to two candidates; Fazeen and former Shifza Mustafa – who had been on top of the list of President’s nominees.
Parliament made the call for a vote on Fazeen. Fazeen secured approval from 55 parliamentarians, and Shifza’s name was therefore not called for a vote.
The appointment of Fazeen has caused a lot of controversy after many believe that Shifza was more deserving of the position based on her accolades. Some have accused MDP-bias in the Parliament because of MDP holding super majority.
