Fenaka Corporation has started providing electricity to Kudagiri, Kaafu Atoll.

Kudagiri is currently under development as a picnic island for residents of the Greater Male’ Region. The newly developed power station at K. Kudagiri was inaugurated by Vice President Faisal Naseem in a ceremony held on Monday.

According to Fenaka, the power station will generate 350 kilowatts of power and is equipped with a storage tank to store up to 50,000 liters of fuel. Moreover, solar panels installed on the island will be able to generate 70 percent of the electricity needed to power the island, states Fenaka.

Eight hectares of land were reclaimed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the development of the picnic island. Kudagiri Picnic Island will be developed with family rooms, food outlets, huts, and barbeque areas as well as changing rooms with lockers, nursing rooms, and prayer rooms. The island will also have an area allocated for events.

Kudagiri picnic island was set to open for public use on 26th July, however, it has been postponed indefinitely.
