Fenaka Corporation has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to install a 4.5MWp solar PV system in Addu City.
This will be one of the biggest solar power projects outside the Greater Male’ Area in the Maldives.
As part of this project, Hulhumeedhoo is set to have a solar PV battery storage system along with a 2MWp solar PV system. Moreover, a solar PV system will also be installed at the Gan International Airport. The main objective of the project is to generate enough solar power for nearby islands and resorts as well.
The 2.5MWp solar PV system at Gan International Airport will be able to generate 100 percent of the power required for the operation of the airport. Gan International Airport will be the first solar powered airport in the Maldives.
The project will save 2.1 million liters of diesel spent yearly on electricity. Furthermore, it will also reduce 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere every year.
