The Housing Ministry is preparing to release the final list of individuals set to receive flats in the initial phase of the Gedhoruveriya housing initiative this coming Sunday. It’s a significant development as it marks the beginning of flat ownership for the first 4,000 recipients. The program attracted a substantial number of applicants, with 20,697 people applying for flats in total.
Of the applicants, 14,489 individuals sought three-bedroom apartments, while 6,208 applicants aimed for two-bedroom units. A provisional list of flat recipients had been published previously, but the ministry has now scheduled the release of the official final list for this Sunday.
Minister of State for Housing, Akram Kamaluddin, confirmed that the issuance of certificates of flat ownership will commence on the same day the final list is disclosed. The first batch of certificates will be distributed to 4,000 individuals, although the specific criteria for their selection have not been revealed.
The provisional list had generated substantial interest, with over 13,000 applicants competing for the available flats. It is important to note that the government has consistently emphasized its commitment to providing flats to all eligible candidates.
