The Ministry of Housing and National Planning has unveiled the conclusive roster of beneficiaries set to receive free land as part of the government’s Binveriya scheme. This announcement sets the stage for the eagerly anticipated land allocation draw scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the comprehensive registration process culminating by November 11.
A press conference held at the President’s Office on Sunday evening saw the official disclosure of the definitive list of land recipients. The event served as an informative platform, delving into the methodology for determining land locations and the subsequent land handover procedures.
Akram Kamaluddin, the State Housing Minister, unveiled pertinent details, highlighting that a total of 18,955 individuals will be granted land from the conclusive list. He expounded on the breakdown as follows:
- An impressive 97% of eligible individuals are slated to receive land, marking an augmentation of 8,641 beneficiaries compared to the provisional list.
- The initial round has omitted 684 eligible individuals, predominantly in the age group of 18 to 25, who live singly and without dependent children.
- An additional 2,068 applicants under the age of 25 successfully secured land through joint applications.
Kamaluddin emphasized the forthcoming draw scheduled for Tuesday to determine the precise allocation of land among the recipients. The allocation process will promptly commence on the same day, with land distribution starting in Hulhumale. The draw itself is slated to take place at the national football stadium in Male.
Following the draw, Kamaluddin assured a seamless land registration process for all beneficiaries, with the objective of completing registrations prior to November 11. The distribution plan centers around the allocation of 1,351 plots of land in Hulhumale, each catering to specific application group sizes:
- 20 plots allocated for applications from groups exceeding 8 individuals
- 31 plots designated for applications from groups comprising 7 individuals
- 60 plots earmarked for applications from groups consisting of 6 individuals
- 100 plots set aside for applications from groups comprising 5 individuals
- 180 plots designated for applications from groups of 4 individuals
- 370 plots allocated for applications from groups of 3 individuals
- 340 plots reserved for applications from groups of 2 individuals
- 250 plots assigned for applications from single individuals
Additionally, Kamaluddin highlighted the imminent land allocation for individuals receiving land from the reclaimed area of Gulhifalhu. He acknowledged that a cohort of 684 individuals would receive land at a later stage due to current land availability constraints.
This comprehensive scheme, tailored exclusively for Male natives under the Binveriya initiative, extends to the allocation of 2,200 land plots in Hulhumale. These efforts collectively augment the overall number of allocated land plots under this initiative to an impressive 6,200.
Furthermore, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recently unveiled plans to allocate an additional 2,000 housing plots in Gulhifalhu, while reserving an equal number for the housing program in Giraavarufalhu. Land reclamation initiatives in Giraavarufalhu have already resulted in the reclamation of 20 hectares of land.
