Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said Maldivian economy is on the right course towards recovery and a 34% economic growth is expected this year.
Speaking at the ‘Rahvehi Fathis’ program, Minister Ameer said the initial estimation of 1 million tourist arrivals in 2021 will be surpassed by almost 200,000 at this rate.
He assured that the economy is on the right course towards a stable recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic brought the economy and Maldives’ main source of revenue, tourism to a halt. Roughly a 34% economic growth is expected this year, according to the Finance Minister Ameer.
Moreover, he highlighted that several development projects amounting to almost MVR 12 billion have been commenced via the credit facility provided by India.
Maldives closed it border during March 2020 when the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the Greater Male’ area. However, the economy has seen steady growth since the reopening of borders and resumption of tourism.
