The Finance Ministry has advised the Health Ministry to nullify the agreement made with Dubai-based Executors General Trading to procure 75 ventilators and to retrieve the money via arbitration.
MVR 34.50 million contract was signed by the Ministry of Health with Dubai-based Executors General Trading to procure 75 ventilators last year and only 15 of them has been delivered so far. Moreover, 5 of the ventilators delivered were faulty or had missing equipment required for full function.
The scandal has attracted a lot of criticism from the public and has established the government’s incompetence among the general public.
Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) along with Maldives Police Service launched an investigation into the scandal and submitted corruption charges against 11 individuals. The Prosecutor General (PG) decided not to press any charges citing insufficient evidence. However, PG yesterday stated that they will review the case once again.
