Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated that the first phase of the development of Addu International Port in Hithadhoo, Addu City is expected to be completed by July 2023.
MPL said the project is currently in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) stage. MPL stated MTCC expects to mobilise the project by May this year, with the first phase of the project expected to be completed by July next year. MPL said the completion of the first phase would enable large ships to dock at the new berthing area.
The project to develop the existing Hithadhoo Regional Port as the Addu International Port was contracted by MPL to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project involves relocation of the existing berthing area and construction of a breakwater to protect the new berthing area.
