Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture, Ms. Zaha Waheed has been sacked from her position.
Fisheries Minister Zaha has received several criticisms from her coalition partners and the public alike. Rumors have been circulating regarding her eventual dismissal, which has been confirmed by the President’s Office to her via an official letter tonight.
Earlier this year, a no-confidence motion against Zaha was submitted to parliament citing failure to provide a reasonable price for fisherman’s catch, and failure to arrange for those who go out to fish to receive payments in dollars. Moreover, pledges to improve the economy of the country, and to establish yellowfin tuna huts and neighbourhood fish factories have also not been fulfilled. However, the no-confidence motion was withdrawn by the opposition under suspicious circumstances.
Zaha’s dismissal comes after the government hinted at a possible cabinet reshuffle.
