Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid left for India on an official visit as President-elect of the 76th United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.
Minister Shahid said on Twitter that he is departing for Delhi as the President-elect of the United Nations General Assembly, at the invitation of the Indian government.
Shahid went on to say that he is looking forward to speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone and meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar during his visit to India.
Foreign Minister Shahid was elected President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on June 7th, with 143 votes cast at the UN Headquarters in New York. He will be the first Maldivian to preside over the United Nations General Assembly.
He named India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Nagaraj Naidu Kumar, as Chef de Cabinet and Thilmeeza Hussain as the PGA’s Special Envoy.
