Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, as the president of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, has announced a youth development programme to train a new generation of diplomats from tiny island nations, least developed countries, and developing countries.
Minister Shahid stated in a tweet on International Youth Day that he plans to create a PGA Youth Fellowship Programme, which will provide a one-year programme in New York to familiarize participants with the United Nations system and inspire multilateralism among participants.
“I am a firm believer in the importance of youth participation, especially in shaping decisions that affect their tomorrow,” he said on Twitter.
Shahid was elected as the president of the UN General Assembly’s 76th session on June 7, and he is anticipated to assume office next month.
