Former Acting Chief Economist of the World Bank Dr. Shanta Devarajan has been appointed as advisor to Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer.
Shanta Devarajan, who was named advisor today, is a professor of international development practice at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He previously served at the World Bank as the senior director for Development Economics, as well as the head economist for the Middle East and North Africa, Africa, and South Asia regions, as well as the Human Development Network.
Minister Ameer stated that Dr. Deverajan’s advice and direction will be beneficial in improving the economy and crawling out of COVID-19’s severe predicament. Minister Ameer further stated that he would seek advice from Dr. Deverajan on decisions about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, Ameer stated that diplomatic relations with the international community will improve under Dr. Devarajan’s guidance.
