High Court of the Maldives has registered the case submitted by former President Abdulla Yameen to appeal his 11-year prison sentence.
After being found guilty of money laundering and accepting bribes related to the lease of Aarah, Vaavu Atoll for resort development through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), former President Abdulla Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Criminal Court of the Maldives on December 25. However, Yameen appealed the verdict on February 21, which has now been registered by the High Court of the Maldives.
The High Court requested some corrections to be made in the appeal documents by Yameen’s lawyers, and the appeal was re-submitted in March before being registered by the High Court.
