Former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has accused President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of accepting money from the MMPRC scandal.
The former tourism minister stated during an online news conference in the United Kingdom that President Solih had taken MVR 35 million from former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb as part of the MMPRC scandal money.
According to Ali Waheed, Solih, who was the MDP’s parliamentary group leader at the time, met with then-Tourism Minister Adeeb in Rehendhi Flat before transferring the money in a black bag.
He further alleged that the incident’s CCTV tape is with Maldives Police, and that the main investigator at the time, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz, had removed Solih’s name from multiple witness testimony.
Ali Waheed further said that everyone knows where the MMPRC scandal money went, and questioned why only former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof, and Ahmed Nihan are being used as scapegoats.
President Solih was also accused by the opposition coalition of accepting money from the MMPRC scandal.
