Former Vice President Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has traveled to Singapore to receive medical treatment.
The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) granted permission for Adeeb to go abroad for medical reasons, as the required tests are not available in the Maldives. Adeeb departed for Singapore under the custody of MCS and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for a period of ten days.
According to the Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD), Adeeb’s trip to Singapore is for the treatment of a severe neurological disease. The decision is based on recommendations from multiple doctors at various hospitals.
In October 2020, Adeeb was sentenced to 20 years in prison in connection to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement and money laundering scandal.
