The Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) has just revealed the thrilling lineup for this year’s Maldives Surf League, promising an action-packed season of wave-riding excitement. Mark your calendars as the first wave kicks off in Gadhdhoo next month with the ‘Kalhegalekoda’ event, setting the stage for a series of adrenaline-pumping showdowns.
In a strategic move, the MSA has trimmed the league to four intense events, each destined to make a splash in the surfing scene. From the picturesque ‘Gaamaadhookolhu’ tournament in Kaafu atoll Himmafushi to the ‘Muleekolhu Raalhugandu’ in Meemu atoll Muli, surf enthusiasts are in for an unforgettable ride.
The grand finale, the National Rannamaari Challenge, is set to captivate audiences from October 27 to November 2 in the Malé Raalhugandu area. This ultimate showdown promises to crown the surfing champion of champions.
As the countdown begins, surf fans reminisce about past champions. Ahmed Agil (Ammadey) clinched the inaugural Surf League trophy, while Hussain Areef (Iboo) carved his name into surfing history the following year. However, in a surprising twist, Areef has decided to retire, leaving a void in this year’s national team.
The spotlight now turns to the new lineup, with Agil leading the senior national team, featuring talents like Najah Mohamed (Kanbo), Hood Ahmed (Hoobs), Ismail Rasheed (Smiley), Hassan Nasih (Chika), and Ismail Miglal (Kuda Issey).
Excitement reaches its peak as the junior national team, composed of 12 rising stars, prepares to showcase their prowess. With names like Sayyid, Shanif Shafiq, Ismail Maduhu Ahmed, and others, the future of Maldives surfing looks brighter than ever.
